Mitch Evans to come back stronger after frustration of Mexico City E-Prix

Despite earning vital points in the FIA Formula E opener in Mexico City, Kiwi Mitch Evans says team Jaguar TCS Racing has much more left to give.

Evans missed out on the qualifying duels by five-hundredths of a second, leaving him in tenth on the grid for Saturday’s E-Prix.

With multiple safety cars, Evans says he found it difficult to find overtaking opportunities, but the Jaguar TCS Racing driver was able to progress to eighth after a late Attack Mode activation.

The aggressive move displayed shades of the Evans/Jaguar dominance in the 2022 Rome double-header, where they were able to perfectly adapt to race conditions and use Attack Mode strategy to leapfrog the Kiwi up the field and into two race victories.

Evans was slightly more muted this weekend in Mexico City.

“I was hoping for a little more today as my Jaguar I-TYPE 6 had great efficiency which is really promising,” he said.

“I lacked a little balance which meant I couldn’t do as much with the energy advantage as I would have liked.”

The Jaguar team was in a frustrating position, seeing two of their customer cars in the top ten while factory driver Sam Bird suffered a drive shaft failure and retired on lap five.

The retirement made Evans’ result even more critical in the tight competition of Formula E.

“I made some positions and scored some points today and we needed that as a team,” said Evans.

“We’ll come back stronger over the next few races.”

The 2023 FIA Formula E championship returns 27-28 January in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
