Mitch Evans looking at bigger picture after Monaco E-Prix podium

Mitch Evans says he is focused on the bigger picture in the Formula E championship despite the disappointment of finishing second in Monaco.

The Jaguar TCS Racing driver was in a duel with countryman Nick Cassidy in the latter half of the Monaco E-Prix, unable to catch Cassidy once he set about unleashing his Envision Racing car to the finish.

"Ultimately every race you turn up and you want to win so I am a little disappointed, particularly as it’s Monaco," said Evans.

"However, if you look at the bigger picture, it’s a great haul of points and huge credit to Nick – he overtook me at the right time when I wasn’t expecting it."

"We still did a really great job and the whole team should be proud of themselves. There are still a lot of opportunities left this season and we’ll be giving it our all to keep moving forwards."

Evans is fourth in the Formula E standings after a run of form, with a pair of victories in São Paulo and Berlin.

"I was feeling relatively good during the race; the strategy involved and car positioning is absolutely critical."

The new GEN3 car has brought a different style of racing to Formula E, with drivers forming tight peloton-style packs to take advantage of the powerful slipstream and conserve battery usage.

"You've got everyone doing different things and trying to predict everyone else's race is really tricky to navigate," said Evans.

"I was not expecting Nick to attack me when he passed me; if I could do the race again I would have defended harder and been more aware. And if I did keep him behind for a couple more laps after that, it would have been a different story."

"It's another "almost" for me this year, but I have to look at the big picture."

The 2023 FIA Formula E World Championship returns 2-4 June for the Jakarta double-header.
