Dutch grand prix practice spin "a shame" for Oscar Piastri

Oscar Piastri was disappointed to end free practice for the Dutch Grand Prix in the barriers after spinning at turn three.

“Just went in a little bit hot, tried to turn in a bit aggressively, and unfortunately found the wall,” said the McLaren driver.

“A shame, and unfortunate to give the guys a mass load of work for the night.”

“Around here, especially in that corner, you pay a big price if you overdo it.”

The Australian was eighth-fastest in free practice one before spinning out after completing just six laps in free practice two.

“Otherwise, I think the pace looked quite good today. I was feeling pretty good with the car, so we’ll try to bounce back tomorrow and have a positive day."

Fellow Australian Daniel Ricciardo broke his hand after hitting the barriers while trying to avoid Piastri.

The McLaren driver, however, was reassured by team principal Andrea Stella.

“Oscar missed some information in terms of preparation for qualifying and the race, but his pace was competitive until that point,” said Stella.

"Overall, we seem to be in a decent place, so we will do our best to be ready for qualifying and the race where we’ll try and score some good points."

The Formula 1 field returns at 7.30pm Saturday for free practice three before qualifying at 11pm (AEST).
