FIA introduces tennis-style driver ranking system for karting

The FIA has introduced an international ranking system for drivers competing in karting series.

The International Karting Ranking (IKR) is intended to regulate and standardise competition karting, as well as balancing karting fields, according to FIA Karting.

Point will be calculated based on karting grades, finishing positions, as well as the number of drivers entered in the category.

Scores will be weighed based on the equipment used and the format of events, before being fed into a logarithmic algorithm.

"This ranking will give an overview of a driver's performance regardless of the category in which they compete, as long as they use CIK-FIA homologated or recognised equipment," according to the FIA.

The ranking system was approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council in October 2022 and is now live, with Turkish driver Iskender Zulfikari holding the top spot after taking out the Lonato Winter Cup last week.
