Team Australia arrives at the FIA Motorsport Games
Team Australia has been welcomed to Marseille in the FIA Motorsport Games opening ceremony.
The team of eight will represent Australia in the second edition of the international event after taking out second place in 2019.
Stephen Grove, Brenton Grove, Matt Campbell, Philippa Boquida, Costa Toparis, Aiva Anagnostiadis, Peter Bouzinelos, and Aaron Cameron will compete in a field of 463 athletes from 72 countries across GT racing, Formula 4, karting, touring car racing, and esports.
“To represent your country is such a privilege, to carry the flag was pretty special, it’s super exciting,” said team captain Stephen Grove, who won a bronze medal with Brenton Grove in 2019.
“The games have grown so much from 2019 in Rome, it’s much bigger now.”
“To come back and try and have another go, especially with Brenton and the rest of the team is really exciting.”
“The standard of drivers through all the categories, the level is as good as anywhere in the world.”
Aaron Cameron, representing Australia in TCR, said he had received support from drivers across the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.
“At least half the field sent me a message so far and said ‘good luck’ and emphasising that they wanted to be here and be the Australian representative and that I must bring home a medal.”
“There’s a fair bit of pressure from home, which is fine, and I’m hoping I can do them all proud and do TCR Australia justice.”
On-track action begins with karting on Thursday 27 October, with medals handed out in the finals on Sunday 30 October.
