Daniel Ricciardo is still facing the challenges of changing Formula 1 teams, says McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl.

The McLaren Racing Team Principal has brushed off concerns about the Australian's results, saying it is part of the long-term process of finding his place in the team.

“At the end, the most important thing for me is that we stay calm and keep going with the integration process," said Seidl.

"It is a quiet complex to change teams in Formula 1, especially with reduced testing time... It simply takes time."

Seidl told In The Fast Lane about his pride in the team's driver pairing, with young star Lando Norris taking multiple podiums throughout the season so far.

“As impressive is the step he’s taken as a person, it’s clear to see that’s he’s growing up," commented the team boss about Norris' performance.

"He’s more serious than he has been before in executing his job here… he’s clearly voicing more what he needs from the team in order for the car to perform."

Norris signed a multi-year deal with the McLaren team earlier this year, and Seidl made clear his future intentions for the driver.

“It’s clear that if he wants to become a top driver in Formula 1 then he needs to take these steps now in his early years and with everything we have seen from him."

"I’m very happy we have him with us for several more years and also very optimistic and confident he will become a top guy in Formula 1."
