Double-podium for Bart Horsten in British F4

Australian Bart Horsten has jumped to fourth in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA — powered by Ford EcoBoost after taking two podium positions in an interrupted race weekend at Croft Circuit in Yorkshire.

The Arden Motorsport driver had achieved a race win and two podium finishes coming into the wet weekend at the Yorkshire circuit, earning his place in the front-running pack.

In Race 1, Horsten passed points-leader Louis Foster for the final podium spot, and held tight as a five-way battle eventuated for third place. Zane Maloney took the race victory, while Sebastian Alvarez, ahead of Horsten in second, was handed a penalty for making a false start, and Horsten inherited the net second-place on track, which he held until the chequered flag.

The reverse-grid Race 2 was red-flagged after a single lap as heavy rain worsened the standing water around the circuit. This was particularly unfortunate for Horsten, who has fared well in his previous reverse-grid outings this season.

Race 3 saw another bold move from Horsten, with the Australian overtaking Sebastian Alvarez around the outside of Clervaux on the opening lap. Horsten had his work cut out for him, having to defend the final podium position from a charging Joe Turney, who finished just +0.138s behind the Australian after a safety car period brought the pack together.

Zane Maloney took the race victory, his fourth in a row. The pair of victories gave him the championship lead on 177 points, just five points clear of second-place-finisher Louis Foster.

Sebastian Alvarez is third on 144 points, and Bart Horsten is now fourth, and back in the championship hunt, on 128 points.

The cancelled Race 2 will run at a later race weekend, with the F4 British Championship certified by FIA — powered by Ford EcoBoost to return June 29-30 at Oulton Park.
