Bart Horsten moves up with BRDC F3 podium at Silverstone, while Christian Mansell holds seventh

Australian Bart Horsten has moved to ninth in the BRDC British F3 standings after a competitive weekend at Silverstone, while Christian Mansell left the weekend seventh in the series.

Horsten qualified fourth for race one, battling hard through the opening lap with Frederick Lubin before taking the final podium position into Village.

Horsten faced a four-second gap to the leaders after the opening lap action, but was able to bridge the distance after a series of fastest laps.

He ultimately finished on the heels of the leading pair of Reece Ushijima and Zak O'Sullivan as the 10-lap race came to an end - his best result so far this year.

"A couple more laps in that first race and we would have been in with a great chance of even winning," said the Australian.

"The car started really nervous with the changes we made but they came on so well towards the end of the race, and we were definitely the fastest car by the time the chequered flag came out."

Mansell qualified sixth, but finished ninth after falling behind in the Lap 1 battle.

Mansell started Race 2 in fifth, with Horsten further down the field in fifteenth.

At the start, Mansell was briefly up to fourth before finally falling to seventh at the line after tight battles throughout the race, including a final attack from Horsten.

Horsten made up five places in the opening period of the race, up into the top 10 by the third lap.

With the lunge down the inside of his compatriot, Horsten finished the race in sixth.

"I wanted to be a star on Sunday from where we started both races," he said, "and despite having a used set of tyres, the car was really good early on before the left front finally gave up a bit in the middle of the race."

"I made a few overtaking moves that stuck, so that was a good result all things considered."

The leaders held their form from Race 1 on Saturday, with Ushijima taking the lead ahead of O'Sullivan.

For the reverse-grid third race, Horsten began in fourteenth, with Mansell ahead of him in twelfth.

Horsten was unable to finish the race, while Mansell dropped to the rear of the field after taking evasive action, eventually finishing in eleventh after a valiant recovery drive.

"It's been a harder weekend for us all I think," said Mansell.

"We've gone from being fairly quick, to then being a bit low here initially and then fighting back on a few occasions."

"There's been a fair few moments of carnage unfolding around us and especially right at the end of the weekend where we had to avoid a few spinners ahead of us, but you can't do much in that situation - it's racing isn't it?"

Ayrton Simmons won the final race, followed by Alex Connor.

Christian Mansell is seventh in the championship standings, with Horsten in ninth.

"We've come away seventh in the championship and others haven't scored well ahead of us, so it's still important to finish where we did," said Mansell.

The BRDC British F3 series will return July 10-11 at Donnington Park.
