Oct 21 Calan Williams, Jack Doohan, Oscar Piastri all take part in FIA F3 post-season test

Australians Calan Williams, Jack Doohan, and Oscar Piastri have joined a field of 31 young drivers in a three-day post-season FIA Formula 3 test at Circuit de Valencia.

Calan Williams raced in the Toyota Racing Series and Euroformula Open this year, while Jack Doohan, a Red Bull junior driver, has competed in Euroformula Open as well as fighting for the Asian Formula 3 title, ultimately finishing second in the championship.

Oscar Piastri has starred in the Formula Renault Eurocup this year, and currently leads the championship with just one round remaining.

Williams is driving for Jenzer Motorsport, while Doohan is testing a Red Bull-liveried Hitech GP car. Oscar Piastri is testing for 2019 FIA Formula 3 Constructors champions PREMA Racing.

Williams said: “I am incredibly grateful to Jenzer Motorsport for the opportunity that they have given me, and with the preparation I have had and which is continuing I feel ready to make this step”.

“I am really looking forward to showing how I can perform in the more complex and powerful cars amongst a huge field of the best young drivers in the world at F3 level.”

“I am also looking forward to experiencing the extra challenges of DRS and the Pirelli tyres designed to degrade in much the same way as they do in F1, meaning you have to manage the use of the tyre well.”

Piastri said: “I am excited to be driving with Prema Racing next week. After testing in the GP3 Series last year I am looking forward to seeing how this year’s FIA Formula 3 car compares to the experience.”

“When you look at the history of the team, the drivers it has worked with as they’ve been making their way to the top levels of racing, and the excellent results it has this season as well, you can see that it has a winning mentality, so I cannot wait to spend a few days with them.”

“The FIA Formula 3 Championship is a fantastic series full of the best teams and drivers around, so it would be a logical destination for next year. However, for now, I am concentrating on the final rounds of the Formula Renault Eurocup and securing the championship title at Yas Marina.”
