Tim Macrow wins interrupted second S5000 Tasman Series race at Bathurst
Tim Macrow has come back from his race one incident to win the second S5000 Tasman Series race at Bathurst ahead of Roberto Merhi and Luis Leeds.
Leeds started on pole position for the first of two reverse-grid races, with the top eight drivers from qualifying reversed.
Macrow made an impressive start as Leeds was bogged down with wheelspin, leading the pack into turn one.
It was Macrow’s second fast start of the weekend, with his pace off the line on Thursday leading to a race-ending start-line crash with John Martin.
Spaniard Roberto Merhi chased down Macrow for the lead as the action continued throughout the field, with the Team Valvoline GRM pack hungry to push through after taking out a team 1-2-3 in race one.
Joey Mawson was sixth at the start and was challenging Leeds for third into the chase when he ran wide through the grass.
Yoshi Katayama found the barrier in turn two to bring out the first safety car.
Macrow led away well at the restart, but a clash further down the field brought out the chequered flag.
Nathan Herne and Joey Mawson ran side-by-side through the cutting, with Mawson catching the edge of Herne's S5000 car as he attempted to pass around the outside, sending him into the wall.
With the final lap declared to keep the field running under a green flag, Nathan Herne was on a flyer down conrod straight.
Herne passed both James Golding and Aaron Cameron to claim fourth position by the end of the final lap.
Macrow held his lead ahead of Merhi and Leeds to complete the podium.
