Trident Motorsport misses points zone in rainy Formula 2 race one at Silverstone

The FIA Formula 2 Championship started its eighth round of the season on the historic Silverstone track, which welcomed drivers for the Sprint Race today on a wet course. The qualifying session did not give too much satisfaction to the Trident Motorsport racers, with Roman Staněk in P15 and Clément Novalak in P20. For both, the only available strategy was to set up an aggressive comeback race. The Sprint Race got off to a rolling start, and the F2 drivers cleanly followed the safety car for three laps before getting the green light.

Novalak confirmed his good feeling for the wet asphalt, but a five-second penalty, resulting from contact with another car, prevented the Avignon native from putting the points zone in his sights. Staněk ran a smooth race, made no particular mistakes, and captured P16 ahead of his French teammate, who served the penalty after the race.

The Feature Race, which will conclude the FIA Formula 2 Championship weekend, is scheduled for tomorrow at 9:55 AM local time.

"Our drivers started in a position too far back on the grid to be able to fight for the points zone in today's race. Staněk and Novalak had a difficult qualifying session in which they were unable to go beyond P15 and P20 respectively. For both, it came a difficult recovery race on a wet track. Novalak showed decent chemistry on the wet, but a five-second penalty dropped him down the rankings. Staněk did not make any particular mistakes, but he did not find the right feeling with the track to go beyond P16. Now our technical staff and drivers will analyze the data collected in the Sprint Race in the usual preparation work for the Feature Race, in which I expect to see a good reaction."
