Formula 1 considering joint event with MotoGP

Formula 1 could host a joint grand prix with top-level motorcycle championship MotoGP.

According to a report from SoyMotor, Carmelo Ezpeleta, the head of MotoGP promoter Dorna, confirmed that he had spoken to F1 boss Stefano Domenicali about the possibility for a crossover event.

The conversation between Ezpeleta and F1 CEO Domenicali reportedly took place at Portimao during the opening round of this years' MotoGP World Championship.

Ezpeleta told SoyMotor, "it's something that crossed Stefano's and my minds, although at the moment it can't be done."

The event would not be possible until after 2027 due to existing contracts with circuits, and would face significant logistical difficulties.

Both top-level global competitions would require their own paddock, and would have to find a venue capable of managing both categories.

This is without considering Moto2 and Moto3, and any Formula 1 support series at the event.

Both Dorna and Formula One Management manage their own global broadcasts in-house, another element which would have to be managed in co-operation.

"It is not something simple," said Ezpeleta.

"There are security problems… there are also sponsor problems… but we keep thinking."
