Richard Verschoor fastest on day two of Formula 2 Bahrain test

Richard Verschoor was fastest on day two of the FIA Formula 2 pre-season test in Bahrain.

The Van Amersfoort Racing driver made the most of the interrupted afternoon session to post a lap time of 1:42.140, the fastest so far after two days of running.

Teams opted for race simulations in the morning session, with Frederik Vesti setting the first competitive lap and remaining at the top of the time sheets until the chequered flag.

Vesti finished the session almost two seconds clear of Ralph Boschung, with Arthur Leclerc setting the third-fastest time.

Aussie Jack Doohan was once again seventh-fastest, with Kush Maini setting the record for longest run so far, completing 50 laps of the Sakhir circuit.

The afternoon session was once again the chance for drivers to make the most of the cooling conditions and an improving track.

Vesti was the first on track but it was Richard Verschoor who set the first representative lap time.

Dusk brought rapid pace to the circuit, with Enzo Fittipaldi moving to the top of the ladder before Victor Martins broke through with a lap 2.5 seconds clear of the rest of the field.

Verschoor bested Martins by just 0.008s in the final moments of the session, posting the fastest time so far after 10 hours of track time.

Martins was second-fastest, with Dennis Hauger in third, as Arthur Leclerc completed the longest run on 33 laps.

Aussie Jack Doohan is showing to be a consistent top-10 contender in the pre-season running, finishing day two as sixth-fastest.

The 2023 FIA Formula 2 pre-season test returns for a final day on Thursday 16 February before the season begins 3-5 March in Bahrain.
