Rising star Hugh Barter steps up to FIA Formula 3

Hugh Barter will make the leap to FIA Formula 3 with Spanish outfit Campos Racing.

The Japanese-Australian has been electric in his open-wheel career so far, finishing runner-up in both the Spanish and French Formula 4 series in 2022.

Barter will remain with the Spanish team to compete on the Formula 1 support line-up alongside teammate and fellow Aussie Christian Mansell.

"I’m very happy to announce that I’ll be doing F3 with Campos Racing this year," said Barter.

"It’ll be good to keep the relationship going after a strong season with them in Formula 4 so I look forward to it."

"I would also like to thank my main sponsor Platinum High Integrity Technologies Limited and All Road Management for supporting and guiding me because without them it would not be possible to take on the championship.”

Barter completed his first laps in the Dallara F3 car during post-season testing last year, and will hit the track in Bahrain for three days of pre-season testing in February.

"We are proud to continue working with Hugh after a 2022 season with plenty of success," said team principal Adrián Campos.

"The Formula 3 championship is yet a more difficult challenge but we feel confident as he is a very talented driver with excellent skills."

"We really hope he will be able to quickly learn with our support and experience in order to end the season fighting for top results.”

He is the third Australian confirmed for the 2023 Formula 3 grid so far, with the series to visit Australia for the first time this year.

The 2023 FIA Formula 3 season begins with round one 4-5 March in Bahrain.
