Doohan started fourth on the grid but was up into second through the first lap.

He pitted early, making his mandatory stop on lap 10,returning to the track to hold off championship protagonist Felipe Drugovich and pull away with a lead of just under two seconds by the chequered flag.

“I’m stoked!" said the Australian.

"Finally my first feature race win and for it to all come together like that this weekend, obviously

not perfect, but P2 in the Sprint from P7 and P1 today from P4 is the most I could’ve asked for."

"I’m really happy."

Adding his first feature race victory to his two sprint race wins, Doohan is fourth in the standings with three rounds remaining.

"Now just eyes forward on the next two rounds and the remainder of the season," said Doohan.

Felipe Drugovich led the early stages of the feature race but pitted one lap later than Doohan, mounting a brief challenge when he returned to the track behind the Alpine junior before settling in for second.

The Brazilian holds a comfortable lead of the championship after main rival Théo Pourchaire suffered a mechanical issue and ultimately retired from the race.

Behind them, Kiwi Liam Lawson emerged from a tense battle with Enzo Fittipaldi in fourth, finally passing Richard Verschoor in the late stage of the race for third.

Countryman Marcus Armstrong was penalised for contact with Dennis Hauger, finishing thirteenth after being declared at fault for an adventurous move around the outside.

The FIA Formula 2 championship returns 2-4 September at Zandvoort.
