Will Power takes last-dash pole position for Indy Grand Prix

Will Power has taken pole position for the Indy Grand Prix in a last-lap attempt around the 2.439-mile Indianapolis road course.

Power set a time of 1:09.7664 on his final attempt to claim the NTT P1 Award by just over a tenth of a second.

“This series, it’s so tight,” said Power.

“So, to get a pole these days, you know you’ve done a really good job."

"And the team has done a great job."

"I’m super-stoked."

"It’s been a long time since we’ve had a pole on a road course. I worked hard on that one."

It was the Australian's 64th pole position, with just three to go before he equals the all-time Indycar record of 67 held by Mario Andretti.

“I feel so privileged to be so close to him" said Power.

"To be up there with names like Mario Andretti and A.J. Foyt is something I wouldn’t have imagined when I started my career.”

Current series leader Alex Palou will start on the second row alongside Power, with current rival Scott McLaughlin down in eleventh after narrowly missing out on the 'fast six'.
