The series, which debuted in 2019 before being cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus, will return in 2021 for an eight-race season.

This year it will run on the Formula 1 undercard, racing at eight events across Europe and the Americas.

The first four rounds will only be available on demand, while the second half of the season will be broadcast live on SBS On Demand.

SBS will also broadcast a half-hour highlights package on its main channel for the final four races.

In the lead up to the first race, fans can also watch W Series: Driven, a six-episode documentary series which followed competitors behind the scenes during the 2019 season.

W Series CEO Catherine Bond Muir said "I am thrilled that W Series: Driven will be available in full."

"There is currently a great appetite – amongst motor racing fans and beyond - for behind-the-scenes motorsport action and Driven delivers all the excitement and drama of W Series' inaugural season in six gripping episodes."

"It's a brilliant recap of our journey thus far for existing fans and I am confident that with the platform provided by our global broadcast partners we will reach an even greater and more diverse audience in the lead up to our first race in Austria."

Australian Caitlin Wood will feature as a reserve driver in this year's competition.

The W Series begins in Austria on 26 June.
