Piastri received the award alongside his championship trophy at the FIA Prize Giving Ceremony in Paris.

The prize is voted by members of the FIA Drivers Commission, led by nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen.

Piastri joins Yuki Tsuonda and Alex Albon on the list of winners, who took out the prize in 2020 and 2019 respectively on the path to their F1 careers.

The Australian will join Alpine Racing as reserve driver in 2022 with an aim to securing a full-time F1 drive in 2023.
