“Plans for the coming 2022 championship are quickly proceeding,” said series organisers.

Promoters ACI Sport and Alpine say the high level of demand for the series means that teams have been pre-selected.

Reports suggest up to 17 teams had proposed interest.

2021 was the pan-European series’ first season after combing with the Formula Renault Eurocup.

Eleven teams from the inaugural season will continue in 2022, with Trident the only new entrant, replacing JD Motorsport.

Trident are 2021 FIA Formula 3 team champions, and have already taken part in the post-season test at Monza.

The 12 pre-selected teams for 2022 are:

  • R-ACE GP

  • ART Grand Prix

  • PREMA Racing

  • ARDEN Motorsport

  • MP Motorsport

  • G4 Racing

  • Van Amersfoort Racing

  • FA Racing

  • KIC Motorsport

  • Monolite Racing

  • DR Formula

  • Trident
