Matthew Brabham the next big name for S5000 debut
Matthew Brabham, one of the most successful drivers ever in the American Road to Indy Program, will take part in the inaugural S5000 race meeting at Sandown, September 20-22.
The Australian took the 2012 USF2000 Championship before winning the 2013 Pro-Mazda Championship with 13 victories out of 16 race starts. He secured multiple race wins in Indy Lights before his graduation to racing in the 2016 Indianapolis 500.
The 25 year-old is the grandson of three-time Formula 1 world champion Sir Jack Brabham and son of Le Mans 24 Hour winner Geoff Brabham.
The opening round of the S5000 series at Sandown will be Brabham’s first drive of an open wheel race car since he competed in the Indy 500.
Brabham will line-up against as many as 13 other drivers in the series debut, including Formula 1 race winner Rubens Barrichello.
