Joey Mawson wins as S5000 makes history in Symmons Plains

Joey Mawson has won the first qualifying heat of the VHT S5000 Australian Drivers Championship at Symmons Plains, ahead of Thomas Randle and James Golding.

Mawson was a late entry into the championship, arriving into Perth from Switzerland on January 5 and completing 14 days quarantine before he could travel to Adelaide, and ultimately, Tasmania.

Despite his second place finish, polesitter Thomas Randle has made Australian racing history, setting the fastest ever lap recorded around Symmons Plains with a circuit completed in just 49.8644 seconds.
