Zak O'Sullivan on edge of GB3 championship after Oulton Park win
Zak O'Sullivan is one step closer to winning the GB3 championship after winning race one at Oulton Park.
O'Sullivan started in pole position and held his lead into turn one, while Luke Browning held off the fast-starting Ayrton Simmons.
The Carlin driver claimed his fifth race win of the year by more than 3.8 seconds.
"I haven’t quite done the maths but a win is a win and I’m going to be extending the gap over everyone if I win," he said.
"So it’s good to get the win, I’ll put my focus onto winning tomorrow’s race and having a good weekend rather than winning the championship."
He now holds a 124-point lead in the championship, and could claim the title in race two on Sunday.
"The car was awesome, I managed to pull the gap slightly later on in the race."
"I think from lap three onwards we had a bit of a tyre advantage and really stretched the gap."
"The car’s been handling great all weekend and I think that really showed there."
Browning finished second but was disqualified after scrutineers found his skid plank had exceeded the maximum permitted wear, promoting Simmons to second and Faria to third.
Aussies Bart Horsten and Christian Mansell finished forth and fifth respectively.
Mansell is second in the championship on 310 points, just three points ahead of Faria and five ahead of Simmons.
