Tim Macrow wins first ever S5000 race in opening Quali Heat
Tim Macrow has taken victory in the first ever S5000 race, winning Qualifying Heat 1 at Sandown ahead of John Martin and James Golding.
John Martin started the race on pole, but Macrow had the better start and lead from the front, holding off his front-row rival to set a new lap record of 65.01 seconds.
Macrow said “it’s fantastic to take the first win in the new class. I’m really rapt.”
“Just to get all of the cars up and running, it’s amazing. It’s a credit to all at ARG.”
“To win the first race, it goes down in the history books. I’m pretty happy about that.”
Macrow starts ninth in Sunday’s reverse-grid Heat 2, with Will Brown on pole.
