MELBOURNE–Three teams will begin the 2025 FIA Formula 2 season on the back foot after the stewards clamped down on illegal sensors used in testing.

DAMS Lucas Oil, Rodin Motorsport, and Trident have all been penalised after installing air pressure sensors by drilling holes in the diffusor, which is alleged to be "modifying a standard part" in the one-make series.

The cars of Jak Crawford, Amaury Cordeel, Alex Dunne, and Max Esterson were all found to contain the same sensor at pre-season testing in Bahrain.

"The collection of this data from pressure sensors in the external airflow could be used to correlate with the data from the chassis manufacturer with the intention to gather more information on the aerodynamic performance of the car in on-track circumstances with different set ups," wrote the stewards.

"Previously teams have requested such permission from the Technical Delegate and it has been denied."

All cars of the teams involved will serve 10-place grid penalties for both races in Melbourne, and be restricted to just two days of running at the upcoming in-season test in Bahrain.

Other teams will be permitted to use the same sensors at the in-season test to catch up with any advantage gained by the three teams involved.
