Team-by-team tyre data as FIA mandates three pit stops for Qatar Grand Prix
Following the news that drivers will be limited to 18 laps on each tyre and effectively forced into a three-stop strategy for the Qatar Grand Prix, tyre manufacturer Pirelli has released the maximum number of laps allowed per driver.
With the knowledge from the sprint race that a medium tyre should last the full 18 laps, while a soft tyre will give maximum performance for around 10 laps, teams have been thrown a strategy curveball ahead of Sunday’s grand prix.
It appears that most drivers will be able to complete at least three stints on new or scrubbed hard and medium tyres, with the difficult choice to come for some in the choice of a fourth tyre compound.
A number of teams - Alfa Romeo, Haas Racing, AlphaTauri, and Williams, could all benefit from having saved two sets of hard tyres for their drivers to use in the grand prix, with a handful of those drivers also having two sets of new medium tyres available.
