After colliding with the rear of another car into the chicane, Frijns pulled his ABT CUPRA to the side of the track.

On-board footage showed the steering wheel moving violently in his hands.

The incident occurred next to the medical centre, where Frijns was assessed for a fracture to his hand and sent to hospital for treatment.

“The most important thing for us now is that Robin recovers quickly and returns to the team, for which we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery,” said team principal Thomas Biermaier.

The 2023 FIA Formula E season returns 27-28 January in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.

"Whether he can count on Robin Frijns for this will only become clear in the next few days after consultation with the doctors," said a team spokesperson.
