Jack Doohan returns to Sepang to start 2020 campaign

F3 ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2019/20 F3 Asian Championship returns to Sepang this weekend for the first round in its new configuration as ‘winter’ series.

The championship has seen an influx of experienced European drivers, from FIA Formula 2 drivers Nikita Mazepin and Tatiana Calderón, FIA Formula 3’s Alessio Deledda, Jake Hughes, and Daniel Cao, and inaugural W Series champion Jamie Chadwick.

Despite the stacked grid, it will be Australian Jack Doohan who has the most to prove. The Red Bull Junior driver was second in the championship last year, after consistent battles with champion Ukyo Sasahara for the top step of the podium. Doohan has a new team this year, having signed with the Irish-backed Pinnacle Motorsport.

Former Pinnacle driver and fellow Australian Tommy Smith has jumped to Absolute Racing, and will be looking to step upwards in the championship after placing 17th last year

F4 SOUTH EAST ASIA

While the F3 Asian championship gets underway in Sepang, their regular stablemates in the F4 South East Asian Championship are there to wrap-up their 10 round series.

Aussie youngster Josh Smith, a regular fixture in the F4 SEA, holds an unassailable fifth in the championship and is out this week, but 23 year-old Ricky Capo is in. Capo, a European Le Mans Series winner, is fresh from racing in both opening rounds of the S5000 series.
