PREMA scores P5, P10 in tight FIA Formula 2 qualifying session

An incredibly close qualifying session at Silverstone handed PREMA Racing P5 and P10 as the FIA Formula 2 Championship got underway today at the British Grand Prix venue. The Italian squad secured P5 with Ollie Bearman.

Rebounding from a tough weekend at Spielberg, the British racer delivered a positive lap in the final stages to take P5, only hundreds of a second away from the pole. He will start from a good position in both races which would be positive to try and maximize his points score at his home track.

Championship leader Frederik Vesti rounded out the top 10 despite being not far off the pole time. The Dane also suffered from an engine issue that prevented him from using his last flying lap. Still, he was able to end up just two tenths off and will start from the front of the pack in tomorrow's reverse-grid Sprint Race.

"It was very close, just two tenths covering the top 10. Obviously, it is not great to be at the back of the top 10, we want to fight for pole every single time, but looking at what happened at the end, with our engine having an issue and having to stop the session early I think we can be quite happy with this. We will now reset a bit for tomorrow and Sunday, and make sure we score a good amount of points this weekend to try and recover from a disappointing qualifying."

"P5 in the end, it's super tight up there, and I'll take it after what happened in Spielberg. Looking at my lap, I made quite a costly error in turn 15, but anyway, it put us in good positions for both races, and that's a good thing. The car was really fast today, and I want to thank the team, especially after FP which was a difficult one. Let's try and score some good points."
