Post-race penalties shake up F3 Barcelona sprint-race order
Grégoire Saucy, Sebastián Montoya, and Rafael Villagómez were all given post-race penalties for the late-race action in the Formula 3 sprint race in Barcelona.
Grégoire Saucy was slapped with a ten-second time penalty for his contact with Dino Beganovic on lap 15, which resulted in a puncture for the PREMA driver, sending him into the gravel and out of the race.
Saucy falls from P9 to P23 in the final standings, promoting Nikita Bedrin into the points.
Sebastián Montoya was handed a five-second time penalty, a slam dunk for returning to the track at turn one without passing on the inside of the bollards at the end of the escape road. It was a consistent application of the penalty by the stewards, with Aussie Hugh Barter receiving the same penalty for that offence during the race. Montoya falls from P22 to P26 in the final results.
Finally, Rafael Villagómez was given a ten-second time penalty for contact with Ido Cohen on lap one, with Cohen sustaining a puncture and veering off into the gravel. The incident ended Cohen’s race, and Villagómez drops from P25 to P27 in the final standings.
