ZANDVOORT, The Netherlands – Oscar Piastri took victory in a dramatic Dutch Grand Prix as the Formula One season returned with a bang from summer break.

Piastri had settled into formation with McLaren teammate and rival Lando Norris, but smoke began to pour from the Briton's car in the final stages, forcing him to retire and clearing a path for Piastri to go unchallenged to the chequered flag.

There was drama throughout, with Max Verstappen battling Norris for second in the early stages, the Dutchman making it through to second off the start but eventually ceding the position back to the McLaren driver.

There was action in pit lane after Lewis Hamilton hit the barriers, with both Ferrari drivers out of the race with Andrea Kimi Antonelli later collided with Charles Leclerc in a controversial collision.

Piastri took victory but had to hold off Verstappen until the flag, with the Dutchman finishing second by just over a second.

All eyes were then on Isack Hadjar, who converted fourth on the grid to the final podium position, the Racing Bulls driver taking his maiden podium position just halfway through his rookie season.

Aussie Piastri now holds a one-race lead of the championship on 309 points ahead of Norris on 275 points, with nine rounds remaining in the tightly contested battle between the McLaren teammates.

Verstappen is third on 205 points for Red Bull and just within touching distance of the leaders, as is George Russell in fourth on 184 points after finishing fourth at Zandvoort.

The 2025 Formula One season returns next week for the Italian Grand Prix from Monza.
