Oscar Piastri setting high hopes for British Grand Prix after top three qualifying
Oscar Piastri earned his best ever qualifying result at the British Grand Prix taking third on the grid behind teammate Lando Norris.
This far into the Formula One season it’s easy to forget that Piastri is in his rookie season, with the Australian delivering results consistent with his experienced teammate.
“Very, very, very happy,” said Piastri.
“I think we were optimistic we could be more towards the front from yesterday. It was a bit of a messy day but the overall pace seemed to be solid.”
“I mean, what a qualifying session. The car was a rocket ship in Q2 and Q3, I feel like I put a pretty good lap together.”
Piastri has taken some of the upgraded parts on his McLaren this weekend after Lando Norris debuted them last time out at the Austrian Grand Prix.
“It’s a massive result for the team and the hard work that’s gone into bringing upgrades to the car.”
“To have both of us up here is a mega result.”
“A lot of people are out of position, we can use that to our advantage hopefully tomorrow, and I think Lando showed last week that the upgrades are hopefully more beneficial on Sundays as well.”
“We can definitely fight the cars that we’re around now.”
Verstappen will start the grand prix on pole, with Norris on the front row ahead of Piastri and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc
“Now we've just got to try and stay there for tomorrow,” said Piastri.
“We know that will be a challenge, but we’re looking forward to it. We’ll see what’s possible and set our hopes high.”
