Oscar Piastri says McLaren struggling in hot conditions
Oscar Piastri qualified nineteenth for the Miami Grand Prix, with McLaren struggling in the hot Florida conditions.
“I’m disappointed to be out in Q1,” said the Australian.
“It was very close between everyone around us. We knew it was going to be tough today and so it proved.”
Piastri could only manage a lap of 1:28.484 in the opening stage of qualifying, knocked out by just over a tenth of a second in the tight midfield.
Teammate Lando Norris was not much further up the timesheets, knocked out in 16th.
“I think we’ve struggled all day,” said Piastri.
“I think we are struggling in the hotter conditions, so we need to find out why. I think it is the heat, the car’s not particularly tricky. It’s quite low grip, it’s just not particularly fast, which is the issue.”
“We’ll have a look at what we can do to make it better tomorrow. It was a bit of a struggle today as a team.”
