Ollie Bearman goes two-from-two in Baku Formula 2
Oliver Bearman took out the Formula 2 sprint race to go two-from-two at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The PREMA Racing driver controlled the race from the front through a virtual safety car and pit stops, taking victory from pole to secure the best possible result from the weekend's two races.
“It was an amazing race," said Bearman.
"To take a clean sweep of wins this weekend is a great feeling."
"I’ve got to say a huge thanks to the team, they gave me the fastest car this weekend so really good job from them."
"It was a tough race, it’s always close and I had a lot of pressure from behind, especially at the start but once I managed to pull a gap, I was just waiting for a safety car or something bad to happen but luckily, nothing did and we managed to take the win."
"Really happy with this result and let’s keep it up."
Théo Pourchaire threatened Bearman's lead off the start, with a tight battle between the pair over when the Brit took the lead the following lap.
The virtual safety car was deployed after the first round of pit stops when Brad Benavides collided with the barriers, leaving Isack Hadjar and Ayumu Iwasa in the lead on the alternate strategy.
Bearman brought it home as the field shuffled through the pits, ahead of Fittipaldi and Pourchaire.
Iwasa, the final driver to pit, finished out of the points in 13th, losing his lead of the championship standings to Pourchaire, with Frederik Vesti up to second.
The FIA Formula 2 field returns in Barcelona for in-season testing before racing resumes 19-21 May at Imola.
