Piastri scored his first points at home in Australia, and showed his determination as he battled illness throughout the sprint weekend in Baku.

"Oscar can drive, we don't have that question," said Brown.

"He has his head down, he gets along well with [teammate Lando Norris], he's very technical, he's not emotional; he's a very mature 22-year old. He reminds me of Lando, in a different way."

Brown also hinted at the extent of Piastri’s sickness in Baku.

“The reports I was getting were ‘we might pull him out of this session’, ‘we might pull him out of the sprint race’. I mean, he was right on the edge and he just kind of put his head down and powered through it.”

“So that was very impressive, because I know I couldn’t survive on three pieces of toast over a weekend.”

In Miami, the Australian showed improvement throughout Friday practice and was competitive in the mid-field despite finishing the day out of the top ten.

"I think we're very impressed with him."

"He's not been to all these races, so early indications are we've got a future world champion on our hands."

"We just have to work to give him a faster car now."
