The extra zone was due to be used in 2022 but was removed after driver complaints.

The Formula 1 Commission approved the change at a meeting in London on Tuesday.

Australian Grand Prix CEO Andrew Westacott said the change will make the 2023 event “the fastest race in Melbourne ever.”

“You've got the evolution of the cars from last year, they've obviously got better, and the fourth DRS zone means the cars will be quicker around the back of the circuit.”

The Rolex Australian Grand Prix takes place 30 March - 2 April in Melbourne.
