Callum Hedge skips Bathurst in hunt for Formula Regional Americas title

The Kiwi has skipped the Bathurst round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, where he sits third in the standings.

“Although I’m gutted not to be driving at the awesome Mount Panorama circuit this weekend, we’ve got a job to do in America, and I’m keen to get it underway!” Hedge posted on Facebook.

He holds the lead of the series on 266 points, with three other drivers still mathematically in contention: Ryan Shehan, Cooper Becklin, and Oliver Westling.

Hedge has been dominant this year in the FR Americas series, taking nine wins out of twelve races, and needs just a 75-point gap to take the title this weekend at Virginia International Raceway and cliam a scholarship from Honda Performance Development and Honda Racing Corporation to compete in the 2024 SUPER FORMULA season

His closest rival is Shehan, 55 points behind him with six races remaining across the two final rounds.

Hedge is also raising awareness for Muscular Dystrophy, after becoming the latest ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Zealand (MDA) after his two nephews were recently diagnosed with the condition.

Race one is underway at 1.30am Sunday (AEDT) before race two at 7.45am and race three on Monday at 2.50am, all streamed live on the FR Americas YouTube channel.
