Middle East championships to make history in Kuwait

The Formula Regional Middle East and Formula 4 United Arab Emirates championships will make history this weekend as the first open-wheel series to race at the new Kuwait Motor Town circuit.

The two competitions will be the first open-wheel series to take to the 5.069km circuit, with twelve races between them over two rounds.

“We are happy to be hosting Kuwait’s first international single seater race at Kuwait Motor Town," said Mohammad Al-Abdalrazzaq, General Manager of Kuwait Motor Town.

Kuwait is the newest FIA Grade 1 track in the Middle East, designed by Hermann Tilke and built at a cost of US $162 million (AUD $228 million).

“The event will be the first of a series of international racing events planned for the near future," said Al-Abdalrazzaq.

"It aligns with our vision of growing motorsports in our region and our goal of placing KMT on the forefront of exciting race tracks in the world."

"Formula 4 and Formula Regional are two key stepping stones to the path of Formula 1.”

“They are also the first step out of karting into a racing circuit.”

The second round for each series will be held 27-28 January, with round three taking place 31 January - 1 February.
