Scott Dixon frustrated as Grosjean crash ends qualifying session in Detroit

Scott Dixon was frustrated as Romain Grosjean’s crash left multiple drivers without a final lap in qualifying for the Indycar Detroit Grand Prix.

Dixon, Colton Herta and Alexander Rossi were all due to complete a final flying lap when Grosjean made heavy contact with the wall, bringing an end to the second part of qualifying.

“Ninth is what it is,” said Dixon.

“I think we definitely had the pace, I think we were on a 74.7s or 74.8s which would have easily got us into the Fast Six there, and possibly converted.”

Josef Newgarden went on to qualify on pole with a time of 1:15.2153 in the Fast Six.

If Dixon had been able to convert his time, he would have been a contender for the NTT P1 Award.

“The car's got great speed, so I'm bummed for the PNC Bank crew,” said Dixon.

“Honda's doing a great job, but these weekends are just frustrating when you can't actually do any of that.”

The Indycar Detroit Grand Prix gets underway at 5.00am Monday morning (AEST) on Stan Sport.
