Davies led smartly away from pole ahead of Conor Somers, who held off a challenge from Blake Purdie to keep second place.

Drivers jostled for position with the field mixed up after the reverse-grid start.

Somers spun out of contention in the final corner, with the field on the their best behaviour and filing past without incident.

The same could not be said the following lap, when James Davison and Zane Goddard came together in the final corner, bringing out the safety car with both drivers tangled on track.

With the race delayed after the interrupted Formula 1 qualifying session, the race hit the time-certain deadline and was declared behind the safety car, with Davies taking the victory ahead of Purdie and Cooper Webster after five laps.

Joey Mawson leads on weekend points and will start the feature race on pole position on Sunday.
