Fernando Alonso injured hands in qualifying crash

Fernando Alonso has revealed he injured his hands in a crash during qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix.

The Alpine driver arrived at the drivers’ parade on Sunday with bandaged hands, telling F1TV he had kept a grip on the steering wheel during the crash, overextending his thumbs.

Despite the injury, Alonso says he will be fit to race for the grand prix.

He is expecting to make up for his disappointing result in qualifying with a return to the pace he showed in FP3 on Saturday, at times topping the timesheet.
