Felix Rosenqvist edges out Scott McLaughlin for Indycar pole at Texas

Felix Rosenqvist has scored the second pole position of his Indycar career after edging out Scott McLaughlin by three thousandths of a second at Texas Motor Speedway.

Rosenqvist had a two-lap average speed of 221.110 mph (355.842 km/h), completing his qualifying run just 0.003 seconds ahead of McLaughlin.

After finishing 21st in the standings after the 2021 season, Rosenqvist was ecstatic with his first pole on an oval.

"This is huge for the team and myself," Rosenqvist said.

"A big confidence boost."

"A big comeback after some tough times."

"I’m really pleased for everyone on my team to get this result."

Rosenqvist had a nervous wait as sixteen other drivers completed their lap after he set his time.

"There were so many guys close to me,” he said.

"There were a couple of guys within thousandths."

"Big thanks to Arrow McLaren SP, Chevy, Vuse."

"I knew that lap was as good as pretty much could have made it."

"It was so hard to wait so long to get it."

Scott McLaughlin was the only driver to get close, putting his No. 3 XPEL Team Penske Chevrolet on the front row alongside Rosenqvist.

Takuma Sato and Will Power will start on the second row, with Scott Dixon behind them in fifth.

The Indycar Texas 375 gets underway Monday morning at 3.30am AEDT on Stan Sport.
