Aaron Cameron watched Super 2 qualifying to prepare for wet Tasman Series feature race

Aaron Cameron says watching Super 2 qualifying helped him prepare for the torrid conditions during the S5000 Tasman Series opener at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Cameron was elated after his victory in round one of the Tasman Series.

"It's pretty awesome," he said.

"To get the main event trophy is pretty special."

The heavy rain meant the main Supercars race slated for Sunday evening was eventually cancelled.

"Out there it was fun, but also really sketchy with the little rivers running across the track," said Cameron.

"You have grip, next minute you're sideways, steering wheel ripped out of your hands."

"It was a good race, and big thanks to all the GRM guys for giving me a car that I could keep on the black stuff."

The Victorian said his team was well-prepared for the wet conditions from the sole previous S5000 outing in the rain.

"I think these cars have raced once before in the wet."

"The boys made a few setup changes for the wet… they've found some stuff that works."

"I actually watched the Super 2 qualifying and watched some of the lines that the boys were taking, with different like go-kart wet lines."

"Around the outside at turn five works really well, and even the last corner, and then coming back for a late apex at turn eight."

"It was actually really good to watch some of them because they were all trying different stuff."

"I sort of found it was fastest in different spots and tried to copy that, and then felt for myself once I was out there, so it worked really well for me."
