Belgian driver Amaury Cordeel has retired from the 2020 Castrol Toyota Racing Series after suffering a concussion in a crash at Highlands Motorsport Park last week.

During a practice session for Round 1 of the TRS, Cordeel made contact with the wall after a high speed spin, with his car then hit by the car of Jose Blanco.

The 17 year-old was assessed by doctors at Christchurch Hospital following the crash, and advised to miss the remaining rounds of the championship, which run on consecutive weekends over the next month.

Category manager Nico Caillol said “it is a real shame to lose Amaury as he had gone well in testing and as a Formula 4 champion, would have been one of the likely front runners in the championship.”

“The most important thing for him now is recovery of course and not taking any risks of further concussion until he is completely recovered.”

“We’ll miss him and everyone at the series wishes him a speedy recovery and we hope we will see him back again next year to show everyone how good he is.”
