The young Australian qualified on pole, but lost the lead to Patrik Pasma off the start.

A safety car brought the pack back together, and Piastri held on for a tight battle with Pasma. The Australian made multiple attempts at the Finnish driver, and was able to make a move stick on lap 14 to regain the lead.

Piastri finished in front of Pasma, with Alexander Smolyar in third. He said “it was a difficult victory to find!”

“My start was far from ideal, but I held second place and tried to pass Patrik wherever there was a gap.”

“It was a good battle, but I hope I can have a much calmer day in the lead tomorrow, ahead of the four rounds remaining this season.”

Piastri was tied on points with Frenchman Victor Martins going into the round, and now leads the championship on 172 points with nine races remaining. Martins is second, on 157 points, with Smolyar third on 141 points.
