WEEKEND WRAP: Wood takes a point in W Series opener and Sargent holds Formula Ford lead in wet weekend worldwide

Jamie Chadwick takes the inaugural W Series victory as Aussie Caitlin Wood takes a point
The W Series 2019 field lines up at Hockenheim
British driver Jamie Chadwick was the star of the first ever W Series race weekend, leading every session and taking the race victory in an interrupted outing at Hockenheim.
Chadwick said:
The win feels great. Going into the race, the conditions were tricky which made things a bit more difficult but off the back of qualifying and the back of yesterday, I really was pushing to get the first win.
Australian Caitlin Wood, who qualified in P12, was up to eighth before a small error cost her three positions in the tight midfield. She recovered to finish in P10, winning the last available championship point, telling the Australian ($):
It was my first F3 race, but I am a bit disappointed with myself that I wasn’t further up the field. I wanted a better finishing position, to be in the top five but I did everything I could. Bagging that one point at the end could come in handy.’
Australian viewers were unable to watch the race live, with broadcaster SBS vowing to fix problems before the next race at Zolder in two weeks’ time.

Callum Hedge took Race 1 and 2 in Queensland, but a DNF in the third race cost him the round victory, and kept the championship lead in the hands of Thomas Sargent. Read our full round report here.
Joey Mawson makes wet Formula Regional European debut
Joey Mawson joined the second round of the Formula Regional European Championship at Vallelunga this weekend, finishing P4 in both Race 1 and 2, before Race 3 was cancelled due to torrential rain.
Mawson qualified in P6 for the first race, but was up to P4 by the end of the first lap of the Roman circuit. He battled throughout the race with Prema driver and championship leader, Frederik Vesti, but Mawson was able to keep the Danish driver at bay and secure the fourth-place finish.
The Australian started one higher in P5 for Race 2, before overtaking Finnish driver Isac Blomqvist, who was dropping through the field after losing the lead to Enzo Fittipaldi. Mawson held off his teammate Sophia Flörsch to finish in a familiar fourth place.
Mawson was due to start Race 3 in P6, but the outing was abandoned after heavy rain delayed the session.
The rain was a common theme all weekend, with the W Series, Australian Formula Ford, and Formula Regional European all having wet sessions.
