Petrov takes Race 1 victory as Toyota publish TRS results
Artem Petrov has been declared winner of the dramatic Castrol Toyota Racing Series’ first race at Hampton Downs, according to results issued by Toyota Racing New Zealand.
Highway F1 has reviewed the available race footage which appears to show Petrov cross the line in first at the restart before the red flag was displayed.
Toyota Racing New Zealand confirmed that the final order was based on how the drivers had crossed the start/finish line after the last restart.
“As they crossed the line Petrov sat ahead of Ptacek with Leitch in third and moving through to the lead at the first turn. And that was how the stewards called the top three.”
They also provided more detail about the earlier awkward moment when a saftey car restart was aborted.
“Das, leading the tightly bunched pack, had not given the Safety Car enough room to exit the circuit safely and it was forced to stay out for another lap.”
Jackson Walls was the best of the Australian drivers in P8, while Thomas Smith finished P12.
