Motorsport Australia celebrates 'outstanding' Piastri title
Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca has congratulated Oscar Piastri for taking out the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship.
"To win last year’s Formula 3 Championship was an impressive feat in itself, but to go back-to-back as a rookie and win the second highest level of open wheel racing is an outstanding achievement," said Arocca.
The Formula 2 title is Piastri's third major title in a row after taking out the Formula Renault Eurocup and FIA Formula 3 Championships.
"No Australian has managed to win the second tier of Formula 1 racing in recent times, so I imagine Oscar would be pleased with his efforts and every Australian should be very proud of this young man – he is doing an outstanding job in representing this country at the highest levels of motorsport," said Arocca.
"Whilst Oscar has not secured a permanent seat in Formula 1 next year, with Alpine appointing him as its reserve driver, I am sure it won’t be too long before we see two Australians in the world’s best racing category."
"On behalf of everyone at Motorsport Australia, we congratulate Oscar and his team on another brilliant year and I hope he enjoys those last couple of races as champion-elect."
