SURREY, UK–McLaren says it will withdraw from the FIA Formula E world championship following a "strategic review" of its racing portfolio.

The news comes just a fortnight after the British team announced it would be joining the World Endurance Championship from 2027, with the team stating that a "focused and strategic approach" means that they will withdraw support from their Formula E stable.

"We are confident the series will continue to form an integral part of the multi-facetted motorsport landscape," read the statement from the team.

The team will continue with drivers Sam Bird and Taylor Barnard, who recently became the youngest polesitter in Formula E history, for the remainder of the season.

"McLaren Racing will be the only motorsport team to compete in Formula 1, IndyCar and the World Endurance Championship from 2027 onwards. And as the only team to have won the prestigious Triple Crown - winning the Monaco GP, the Indy500 and the 24hr Le Mans – McLaren Racing will be uniquely placed to strive for this incredible accolade once again."

Team boss Zak Brown said that "the time is right to explore other opportunities that more closely align with McLaren Racing's overall strategic direction - including our 2027 entry into the FIA World Endurance Championship."

"For now, we are focused on setting this great team up for future success by working towards securing a new owner."
