Matias Zagazeta brings the fight to Toyota FR Oceania at Teretonga
The Peruvian took his second victory of the Toyota FR Oceania season to bring life into the final rounds of the championship battle.
Matias Zagazeta took a fine victory in the Toyota Formula Regional Oceania opener at Teretonga to return to victory lane and stay in the championship fight.
The Peruvian made a perfect start to keep championship leader Arvid Lindblad at bay, holding the lead with a handful of car lengths before a late race safety car brought an early end to the running.
The Red Bull junior fought to stay on the tail of Zagazeta's Toyota FT-60 and was beginning to apply vital pressure when the safety car emerged after a puncture for Michael Shin, denying him the opportunity to fight for the lead.
"It was a fantastic race and we made a great start," said the M2 Competition driver.
"The pace was super strong compared to everyone else apart from Arvid who was staying quite close behind."
"So really it was a question of not making any mistakes. It was unfortunate it finished under the safety car but we’re still very happy to win again.
"We had really tough races at Hampton Downs and Manfeild so to come back here, refresh and win is really good, and I am very happy with the job we have done on and off the track.
"It’s fantastic to have a driver like Arvid in the championship as it pushes everyone to a higher level."
Zagazeta returned to the top of the order after taking victory in the opening round, while Lindbald and American frontrunner Nikita Johnson completed the podium. Australian Patrick Heuzenroeder was best of the rest, finishing behind them in fourth.
