Kiwi Louis Sharp hospitalised after F3 Australian GP crash
The young Kiwi says he is on his way home to heal and rest ahead of the remainder of the FIA Formula 3 season.
Kiwi F1 hopeful Louis Sharp has shared photos from a hospital bed after a heavy clash with Aussie teammate James Wharton in the season opening FIA Formula 3 race at the Australian Grand Prix.
"Definitely not the start to the year we wanted! A crash in the sprint race while coming through the pack unfortunately resulted in a night in hospital and a few back injuries sustained," wrote Sharp.
The Kiwi was locked in battle with his Aussie teammate when the two made contact, sending them both into the barriers.
The 18-year-old shared pictures of his transport to hospital, and of him seated in a hospital bed wearing a neck brace. Both teammates withdrew from Sunday's feature race due to injury concerns.
Sharp says he will now head home to New Zealand to rest and heal.
"Wanted to say a massive thank you for the support from the PREMA Racing team and the amazing doctors and nurses at Alfred hospital for looking after me," he said.
"Focus now is on recovery so I can be back in the car very soon!"
